Travel and Terrain Advice

On the northern side of the valley of Hakuba, on the slopes near the forest limits, pay attention to the newly formed wind slabs. In places with slightly elevated elevations there is some snowfall, which is moving with strong north-west winds. The overall avalanche risk is not high, but consider that there are slopes in a different state than yesterday. To identify places that are prone to instability after the slab has formed, such as convex or isolated terrain, or crossloading support ridge sides. The weather is in a good direction. Have a good day with topographic recognition group management.

概要

Avalanche

Snowpack

At low altitude there is a thawed frozen layer, and in other places there is a settled old snow. Old snow is a variety of situations with dry snow that is hit by wind and stiff, thawed and frozen under the influence of heating and solar radiation, or sinking. On top of these snow conditions, there is a weak snowfall on the north side of the valley from yesterday to this morning, and very strong northwest winds are blowing at high elevations.

Weather

Japan Meteorological Agency predicts north of Nagano Prefecture, north wind, cloudy, sunny from noon, snow until morning, and the highest temperature of 3°C (418m altitude). AMeDAS Hakuba (altitude 703m) has an air temperature of -3.4°C, and there is no new snow cover in the past 12 hours.
