Travel and Terrain Advice

Beware of inducing storm slabs on extremely steep slopes. Be careful at higher elevations where snow bonding is less likely to proceed. Be aware of the presence of large start zones overhead even if you yourself are on a low slope. Even if the avalanche is small in size, there are exposed "terrain traps" such as deep streams, cliffs, rocks, and standing timber that can increase the damage. Be careful about falling into gully. Also, be mindful of group management, such as whether other runners are above or below you.

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday, there was a report of observing the sound of several large avalanches from steep areas around Tanigawadake, but details are unknown. numerous human-triggered slab avalanches (size 1-1.5) have occurred on extremely steep slopes until the 10th.

Snowpack

In the upper part of the snowpack, which has been settling and tightening, and in the upper part of the crust on the southerly slopes, there is about 40-60 cm of snowfall from the stormy weather since the 8th, and about 100 cm in areas with heavy snowfall. A poorly bonded layer exists inside this snowpack and at the boundary, and although it was responding to human stimulation on the 10th, settling is progressing and bonding is gradually being raised. The middle part of the snowpack is bonding and gaining strength.

Weather

As of 5:00, the temperature at AMeDAS Fujiwara is -0.8°C. No new snowfall in the past 24 hours. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting rain or snow in the foothills of northern Gunma Prefecture and cloudy mornings and evenings as a low pressure system moves east of Kanto during the night.
