Travel and Terrain Advice

Beware of triggering storm slabs in areas with variable slopes or on open, steep slopes with few trees. Be aware of extreme steep slopes below treeline. Be mindful of group management, such as making sure other skiers are not above or below you. The low snowpack exposes "terrain traps" such as deep streams, cliffs, rocks, and standing timber that can increase damage even if the size of the avalanche that occurs is small. Care should also be taken to avoid falling into gully. Sunny skies are forecast during the day. Please be aware of the possibility of loose snow avalanches from large south-facing steep slopes that are susceptible to solar radiation.

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (2nd), there was a report of a human-triggered slab avalanche size 1 observed on a steep slope near 1400m.

Snowpack

More than 30-50 cm of snow has fallen due to the stormy weather up to yesterday. The snowpack is gradually settling and bonding, but low-density snowfall has been observed on the boundary, and a human-triggered avalanche was recently reported from there, so care must be taken to avoid bonding.

Weather

As of 4:00, the temperature at AMeDAS Fujiwara is -10°C. Snow accumulation is settling. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting clear skies, becoming cloudy after noon, with snow showers in some areas in the evening, due to the effects of a pressure trough and cold air in the foothills of northern Gunma Prefecture, although high pressure is expected to prevail.
