Travel and Terrain Advice

Today is a day to have fun in the ski resort. Rainy days are more fun than you might think, as the boards run well. Just be sure to take all the waterproof measures you can. To get to the mountains, you will have to pass through rainy areas, wet your clothes and equipment, and then go above freezing level. If your equipment is inadequate, you will be clad in ice armor. Not only is there a danger of avalanche, but also hypothermia and lost due to poor visibility are to be expected. It is New Year's Eve. It is a good idea to take a hot spring bath and eat delicious food with your friends. I wish you all a happy new year!

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday, glide crack extension was observed on a sunlit slope at the treeline.

Snowpack

With yesterday's warming and sunny slopes, the snow surface became moister on south-facing slopes in the alpine area and on slopes below the treeline, and refroze in the evening. It remained dry on other orientations in the alpine area. Since this early morning, a few cm of snow has been on top of it above the upper treeline and rain below it.

Weather

The Japan Meteorological Agency forecasts that a low pressure system will move east of Japan through the Izu Islands area and gradually become a winter pressure system with a high in the west and a low in the east. Therefore, it will be cloudy and rainy with some thunderstorms in the evening. In higher elevations, snow is forecasted to fall mainly in the morning and evening. At Amedas Hakuba (elevation 703 m), the temperature is 0.0°C (as of 5:00). Snowfall since last night is 0 cm.
