Travel and Terrain Advice

Pay attention to wind slabs that remain in certain terrain locations. Currently, the wind has completely subsided, but strong southwesterly winds were blowing yesterday, moving snow to the shady slopes on the north side. While checking the condition of the snow cover surface layer, avoid terrain with convex or isolated shapes that can easily be triggering points. Also, check if there are any “terrain traps” below the slope. Even if you feel that the snow cover is stable, please do group management using the terrain, such as stopping at a safe position. It reduces accidents in the unlikely event of an emergency. Have a nice day

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (7th), a naturally occurring avalanche of size 1 was observed on a slope where snow affected by wind accumulates. Also, shooting cracks have been reported.

Snowpack

The consolidated snow from the afternoon of the 5th proceeded rapidly due to yesterday's good weather. It has been observed that the bonding strength at the interface between the thaw-frozen layer and fresh snow has improved in the below treeline, but it is somewhat uncertain at high altitudes. Also, in places where the wind is strongly affected, there are many places where hard snow surfaces are exposed.

Weather

The Japan Meteorological Agency predicts northerly winds, sunny, sometimes cloudy, and a high temperature of 7℃ (elevation 418m) for the northern part of Nagano prefecture. At the foot of Mt. Hakuba (elevation 703m), the temperature is -3.0 degrees Celsius (as of 5:00), and there has been no new snowfall in the past 12 hours.
