Travel and Terrain Advice

Beware of local instability that remains in extreme terrain, etc. Even if you feel that the snow cover is stable, when you enter a place exposed to avalanche danger (= avalanche terrain), please do some kind of safety action (such as keeping a reasonable distance from your friends). Daily recognition of the terrain and the habit of behavior based on it will reduce accidents in the event of an emergency. Also, please do not approach or enter slopes that already have glide cracks.

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (9th), several traces of old surface avalanches (size 2) that occurred during stormy weather have been observed.

Snowpack

Snow in stormy weather settles, forming time-lapsed wind slabs locally on the terrain. There is also good weather, and thin melting crusts are formed on the snow surface on the surface exposed to strong sunlight, but the north side is kept dry. Currently, no noticeable vulnerability has been observed in snow cover. However, depending on the course of the low pressure and the degree of development, if a strong snowfall begins, please determine whether a point generation avalanche can occur. The southwest winds are already coming in in the sky. In the event of rainfall, the risk of Glide avalanche increases.

Weather

The Japan Meteorological Agency predicts southern winds, daytime, northern winds, cloudy, snow or rain from the morning, and a maximum temperature of 3 degrees (elevation 13 m) for the Joetsu region of Niigata prefecture. We are observing the temperature -1.7℃ (as of 5:00 p.m.) at Myoko Kanzan (altitude 350 m). No new snowfall has been observed in the past 12 hours.
