Travel and Terrain Advice

At very high elevations, watch out for wind slabs remaining in terrain pockets, such as around ridges and on very steep, gully terrain. On other slopes, you can enjoy pleasant spring snow if you choose the right time of day and the right slope. Strong sunshine and rising temperatures are forecast for today, so be sure to notice any snow changes on the snow surface during the day. Also, at lower elevations, watch out for collapsing snow blocks that remain on steep slopes. The sides of the forest roads used for descents are also places to be careful. Have a good spring day.

The rating is as of the morning. Do not miss the situation where the rising temperature and solar radiation during the day reduces the strength of the snow on the snow surface.

概要

Avalanche

No new avalanches were reported yesterday (4th).

Snowpack

In Alpine, previous snowfall (15-20 cm) is expected to move in with strong northerly winds until about 9 pm last night, forming slabs. Skiers going to higher elevations should be aware of unstable slabs remaining in terrain pockets. Breakable crusts or hard Melt-Freeze crusts are forming at elevations where the snow surface is mosit or wet.

Weather

The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting winds from the south, later from the north, clear skies, cloudy from midday, and a daytime high of 17 °C (418 m elevation) for northern Nagano Prefecture. At AMeDAS Hakuba (elevation 703 m), the temperature is -1.3 °C (as of 5:00 am), with no precipitation in the past 12 hours. At the main ridge (elevation 2,400 m), the temperature is -8.6 °C (as of 5:00), with an average northwesterly wind of about 3 m/s.
