Beware of storm slabs forming on steep slopes. Even below treeline, beware of triggers from open steep slopes with few trees and abrupt changes in slope. Even if you find yourself in a forested area with a moderate slope, it may be a runout zone of large avalanche terrain. Consider the possibility of avalanches from large avalanche start zones that exist in the alpine area overhead. When regrouping after skiing, try to do so off avalanche terrain and in the safest place possible, such as on a ridge top.

Yesterday (23rd), there was a report of an avalanche (size 1.5-2) observed in the Kagura area, caused by a storm slab that appeared to have occurred naturally during the stormy weather up to yesterday.
The snowfall from this storm is gradually settling, but attention should be paid to bonding within the new snowfall on the upper part of the snowfall. Crusts have formed on the southerly direction and on all slopes below about 1400 m, and were deeply buried by the snowfall since noon on the 17th. Low-density snowfall may be buried on the boundary surface, and bonding should be noted. The middle to lower layers of the snowpack at the bottom of this crust are settling and bonding.
As of 4:00 pm, there had been 1.5 mm of precipitation in the past 12 hours at Ameda Fujiwara, located at 700 m elevation, and about 2-3 cm of snow had fallen in the surrounding area. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) is forecasting cloudy skies and occasional sunshine until early afternoon in the foothills of northern Gunma Prefecture, with snow showers in some areas, due to the continuing winter pressure pattern and the influence of a trough of atmospheric pressure and cold air.
