Travel and Terrain Advice

The strong winds that started yesterday have changed direction several times in the past 24 hours, starting from the East and swinging around to the North and the West. Make sure to assess each new aspect as you travel in the mountains today to check for new Windslab and Cornice formation. The wind yesterday was strong enough to create Windslabs at lower elevations in places where you usually wouldn't find them.

概要

Avalanche

A size 1 Wind Slab was triggered with a ski cut on a SE asp at 850m yesterday.

Snowpack

Up to 15cm new snow fell overnight in the Northern part of the region, and 5-10cm in the Southern part. The region has experienced Strong winds that started yesterday afternoon and continued through the night. During this period the wind shifted between East, North, and West. The wind has been strong enough to strip the snow from exposed areas and transport the snow on to slopes that were facing away from the wind, creating new Wind Slabs and wind affected surfaces at all elevation bands. There is a crust near the surface at elevations below ~500m.

Weather

Strong Westerly winds are forecast, with light snowfall and cloudy skies through the day. The temperature has dropped overnight and will stay near -10C at TL today.
