Travel and Terrain Advice

At lower elevations, be aware of the potential for loose snow avalanches from steep slopes caused by elevated temperatures and rainfall. There are exposed "terrain traps" such as deep streams, cliffs, rocks, and standing timber that can increase damage even if the size of the avalanche that occurs is small. Be careful of falling into gully and stepping through snow cover.

Snowpack

Since there has been rainfall at least above 1000 m, the snow surface is expected to melt at lower elevations. In areas without tree cover at higher elevations, surface hoar formation was observed on the 30th and may be thinly buried. No vulnerabilities within the old snow were reported.

Weather

As of 4:00, the temperature at Amedas Fujiwara is 3.2°C. Light rain is falling in the vicinity. The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting cloudy and sometimes sunny skies in the foothills of northern Gunma Prefecture due to the influence of a frontal and cold air.
