Travel and Terrain Advice

The avalanche danger level is decreasing and it is a good day to approach higher elevations. However, please assume that there are still unstable slabs in localized areas of terrain and take action to avoid more triggering areas. Crusts are forming on the south-facing slopes, so be careful when skiing to avoid falls. Also, the creeks in the forest are filling in more than before, but the snow is still thin and there are still many holes in the creek bottoms that require caution. Please choose a safe route. Today's mountain is expected to be crowded. Please consider how to behave so that no more than one group is in the same avalanche terrain. Basic actions such as "stop in a safe place" and "ski one at a time" will reduce the number of accidents and increase the chances of survival and rescue for those caught in an avalanche. Have a good day.

Be wary of terrain that is less supportive of snowpack and has extreme slope features.

概要

Avalanche

Yesterday (February 3), glide avalanches were observed at lower elevations.

Snowpack

Storm snow is settling well. At higher elevations, instability may still be localized, so please check the strength of the interface with the old snow.

Weather

The Japan Meteorological Agency is forecasting winds from the south, then from the west, slightly stronger, cloudy, rain or snow in the evening, and a maximum temperature of 8°C (13 m above sea level) for the Joetsu region of Niigata Prefecture. At Sasagamine, Myoko (elevation 1,310 m), the temperature is -10° (as of 4:45 a.m.).
