Travel and Terrain Advice

Pay attention to wind slabs that remain in certain terrain locations. Currently, the wind has completely subsided, but strong southwesterly winds were blowing yesterday, moving snow to the shady slopes on the north side. While checking the condition of the snow cover surface layer, avoid terrain with convex or isolated shapes that can easily be triggering points. Also, check if there are any “terrain traps” below the slope. Even if you feel that the snow cover is stable, please do group management using the terrain, such as stopping at a safe position. It reduces accidents in the unlikely event of an emergency. Have a nice day

概要

Avalanche

Multiple size 1 surface-occurring avalanches have been observed yesterday (7th).

Snowpack

The consolidated snow from the afternoon of the 5th proceeded rapidly due to yesterday's good weather. It has been observed that the bonding strength at the interface between the thaw-frozen layer and fresh snow has improved in the below treeline, but it is somewhat uncertain at high altitudes. Also, crusts are formed on the snow surface on slopes that are strongly affected by solar radiation in the below treeline.

Weather

The Japan Meteorological Agency predicts southern wind, daytime, north wind, cloudy, sometimes sunny, and high temperature of 6℃ (elevation 13 m) from the afternoon to the Joetsu region of Niigata prefecture. At Myoko Sasagamine (elevation 1,310m), the temperature is -10℃ (as of 5:00), and there is no new snowfall in the past 24 hours.
